Media Borough is known for its beautiful architecture, well-kept lawns, and picturesque scenery. Over the holiday season, these awesome sights are made all the brighter with decor and lights.

To encourage the community’s holiday spirit, and to make the season extra bright, Media Borough is hosting the Hometown Holiday Lights Contest.

Entries will be judged in three categories: Best Holiday House, Best Holiday Window Display and Best Holiday Block. Entries must be received by the end of the day Tuesday, Dec. 9.

According to the borough, Round One voting will take place Friday, Dec. 12 until Friday, Dec. 19, and all visitors are welcome to vote for their favorite displays online. Round Two voting will take place in-person, on Saturday, Dec. 20. Last year, homes along Pennock Place were all awarded a trophy as the winners of Best Block.

The top tier will compete in a final round during the borough’s Winter Solstice celebration, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Plum Street Park area of State Street.

“This year, there will also be trophies for First Place House and First Place Window Display (along with Media gift cards),” said the Borough’s Facebook post. “And as always, each entry for Best House and Best Window receives a Media 2025 Keepsake ornament.”

Entries will need to submit a photo with the decorated house or window, along with the online form located on the Borough’s website. Each address that is entered will be added to the 2025 Holiday Map. Each home (and block) will also be placed on the online voting form. For those entering the “best block” submissions, only one person from the block is required to fill out the form.

While the Borough’s staff and residents are excited to see the holiday spirit alive in area homes, they did also ask that decorators keep the safety a priority.

“Please keep our Hometown wildlife in mind,” said the Borough’s site. “They need regular darkness and a safe space to thrive. Setting lights on a timer to turn off at 11 p.m., plus avoiding net lighting and glitter, are easy ways we can help.”

Those interested in entering the contest can fill out the online form on the Borough’s website (linked here).
