Come out to enjoy: A Celebration of 44 Years of Service

  • Community

In just over a week, the Borough of Media will come together to celebrate more than 40 years of service. Through the joyous celebration, there may also be farewell tears as “Everybody’s Hometown” says goodbye to Mayor Bob McMahon.

The Borough is excited to announce a special event to honor the remarkable tenure of Mayor Bob McMahon, who will be retiring in January after an impressive 34 years of dedicated service as Mayor of Media,” said the borough’s website. “Previous to his service as Mayor, Bob served on the Media Borough Council for 10 years.”

After such a long-standing pillar of the Media community giving back so much, the borough has created an all-ages event to celebrate the legacy.

“Join us on Saturday, Dec. 20 at noon for the Mayor Bob’s State Street Send-Off, a mini parade celebrating his contributions to our community,” said the site.

The Media Borough Police Department will offer its services, providing the path for the parade.

“The event will feature a police escort as Mayor Bob travels down State Street in Media, marking a rolling closure that transforms the street into a festive atmosphere reminiscent of a motorcade,” said the site. “This is an opportunity for residents and community members to come together and show their appreciation for the mayor who has shaped our hometown into what it is today.”

From bringing in new commercial opportunities, to new job creation, the mayor has spent his career bettering the borough.

“Mayor McMahon has been a steadfast leader in the Borough, guiding our community through numerous challenges and achievements over his three-decade tenure,” said the Borough’s webpage. “Mayor Bob was instrumental in attracting businesses including the well known Media Trader Joe’s and Fellinis [Fellini Cafe of Media].”

He’s also been a proponent of the borough’s educational ventures.

“One of Mayor Bob’s biggest challenges was regarding the potential closure of Media’s Elementary School,” said the site. “In response to this pressing issue, the Mayor had taken proactive steps by engaging with each member of the school board to keep Media Elementary in the borough.”

And it wasn’t just the heartstrings this mayor pulled at to save the school. He also worked to be sure it made financial sense.

“He particularly focused on discussions with the finance committee to present a comprehensive plan aimed at addressing concerns surrounding the school's future and saved Media’s Elementary School,” said the borough’s page. “In addition to these advancements, Mayor Bob continued to capture the attention of viewers across the region. Local TV newscasts drew more than 10 million views per year, highlighting the vibrant events and stories that make our community unique. His vision and commitment have left an indelible mark on our town - ‘Everybody’s Hometown.’”

All area residents are welcome to bid the final farewell to this public servant. All ages are encouraged to line State Street on Dec. 20 at noon to “cheer and celebrate with us” as we honor Mayor Bob's extraordinary career.

“Let’s come together as a community to express our gratitude for his unwavering service,” said the site.
