Leonard Altieri is re-elected as the board's chair for the new year.
To begin the 2026 new year, the Newtown Township board of supervisors welcomed back many familiar faces.
Leonard Altieri, Newtown Township Supervisor, was renamed as chairman for the board.
“I was honored to be sworn in for a second term as Township Supervisor and re-elected by my colleagues to serve another year as Chairman of the Board. I’m grateful for their confidence and take seriously the responsibility that comes with this role,” said Altieri via a Facebook post.
In addition to Altieri, Supervisor Paul Sanfrancesco was nominated as the board’s Vice Chair. The board also welcomed its newest member, Supervisor Cheryl Grosso.
“I also congratulate Cathy Wilt on becoming Township Auditor and Marie Richards on her re-election as Tax Collector,” said Altieri. The board’s chairman said that he aims to continue the hard work the Township needs as 2026 begins.
“Over the past year, this Board delivered real results for Newtown Township: strengthening public safety with a fair police contract while protecting taxpayers, maintaining the lowest township tax rate in Delaware County with a full-time police force, fully funding our pension plans, preserving our AAA bond rating, supporting our volunteer fire company, and expanding sidewalks and trails—efforts recognized with the 2025 Delaware County Transportation Management Sustainability Award,” he said in a social media statement. “None of this work happens without the support of our families, and I am especially grateful to my wife Franca and my daughter Lucia for the many sacrifices they make so I can serve.”
Altieri said that, parties aside, he is a chairman for all of Newtown Township.
“As we move forward, we remain focused on responsible governance, long-term planning, and doing what’s right for the residents of Newtown Township,” he said. “Elections are over. Governing begins. Thank you for your trust—let’s get to work.”
