The Lifecycle Wellness and Birth Center in Bryn Mawr has served the communities in and around the Main Line for 47 years. However, in 2026, it will close its doors after delivering more than 16,000 babies.
The announcement, which the Center posted on its site “with heavy hearts,” came in late 2025. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer report by Sarah Gantz, the center known for “homelike births” will stop deliveries on Feb. 15, 2026. The midwife-led births and personalized maternity care was well known throughout the region for a unique alternative to hospital births.
Starting in February, the Center will stop assisting deliveries from Bryn Mawr Hospital. According to reports, by March even more is slated to close. This spring the Center has said it will also close its outpatient prenatal, postnatal, and gynecological services.
The announcement has left many local families concerned about diminishing maternity care options. The Center, which operates entirely through the work of midwives, gave women like Caitlin Corkery options, Philadelphia Magazine said.
Corkery called the midwives there like “all your nicest aunts and cousins.”
“I was so used to being in medical situations where … it’s people poking and looking for things to go wrong,” she said to Philadelphia Magazine. “[Lifecycle] made me feel that everything was within my control. I was equipped to make choices.”
