These incredibly low temperatures and hefty winter storms have put a chill in the air that makes it difficult for all. It is especially hard on those that can’t afford the necessary gear to stay warm. Thankfully, area organizations have come together to help those in need during these arctic blasts.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office collected winter wear in order to donate it to those in need throughout the county. Last week, Sheriff Siddiq Kamara was able to take the donated items to the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) for distribution. Kamara was joined by Darby Borough’s mayor, Joar Dahn.

“We are happy to support this initiative and provide local families with what they need to stay warm,” said Kamara.

DCIU was more than happy to handle the gear, preparing to help area families stay warm.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office for their generous donation of winter coats, hats, and gloves to our Family Center,” said a post to the DCIU’s social media page. “These items, collected through the kindness of County employees and members of the community will help keep local families warm throughout the winter season.”

Representatives from the intermediate unit will soon be able to provide the donated winter wear for use.

“Acts of generosity like this make a meaningful difference for the families we serve,” said the DCIU post.

The Delaware County Family Center, operated by DCIU, offers free activities, programs, and services to “support families in raising strong, healthy, and happy children,” according to its mission.

“Thank you for helping us spread warmth and care this winter!” said DCIU via its Facebook page.
