The musical “Wicked” may have jumped over to the silver screen, but this spring, locals will have an opportunity to see the show in its original form — on Broadway.
The Parks and Recreation departments of Radnor and Tredyffrin townships are hosting a bus trip to see “Wicked” at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, departing at 7:30 a.m. on April 11 from Radnor Memorial Park in Wayne. The show is recommended for ages 8 and up.
Tickets are $210 and include seating in the Mezzanine 3 Section of the Gershwin Theatre plus round-trip transportation on a deluxe motorcoach. The show, which starts at 2 p.m., has a 2-hour and 45-minute run time with a 15-minute intermission. Given the 7:30 a.m. bus departure, participants will have time on their own to explore the city before the show begins.
The bus will pick participants up for the return trip to Radnor at 6:30 p.m. on 8th Avenue between 54th and 52nd streets — but that location may be adjusted due to traffic or other factors. No refunds will be offered unless the trip is canceled by either Radnor or Tredyffrin township.
“Wicked” is set in the Land of Oz before the events that led Dorothy to the yellow brick road in the classic novel and film “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” It explores the relationship between Elphaba Thropp and Glinda Upland, who eventually become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
“Wicked” premiered on Broadway in 1993, originally starring Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda. It is currently the fourth-longest-running show in Broadway history.
