A New Jersey man has stepped forward to claim a $5 million lottery ticket that he bought at a grocery store in Radnor Township.

The man, Francis Mehaffey, bought the winning “MONOPOLY Own It All” scratch-off ticket at the GIANT food store located at 550 E. Lancaster Ave., according to the Pennsylvania Lottery. The store will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, which cost $50.

The Pennsylvania Lottery learns where a winning scratch-off ticket is sold only after a prize is claimed; in Mehaffey’s case, the ticket was entered into the lottery’s system on Jan. 2.

Scratch-off prizes expire one year from the game's end-sale date posted at palottery.gov, so winners should immediately sign the back of their ticket and call the Pennsylvania Lottery at 1-800-692-7481. To check if a ticket is a winner, individuals can use the official PA Lottery app, go to the website, ask the retailer where the ticket is sold or call 1-833-530-PLAY (7529).
